Artist Bio

Hi, I’m Tara, the owner & broom-maker at Bespoke.

I am a life-long Alaskan, lover of long wanders in the woods, botany, blackcurrants, and all things handmade.

I strive to create my art in a way that is sustainable and also a celebration of the natural world. I locally source or grow as many of my materials as possible.  My brooms blend traditional techniques with materials and themes that make them unique to Alaska. The brooms I create are a mix of form and function. It is my hope to build brooms that are interactive pieces of art, reminding us of the natural resources, people and processes tied to the creation of everyday objects.

In addition to keeping floors clean, handmade brooms are imbued with the potential to spark curiosity, resurrect ties to the past, and to start conversations about the role of handcrafts in the present and future.
